IRISH OPEN AT BALTRAY, DROGHEDA

14-17 May 2009

The Irish Open Golf Tournament tee’d off in some rather overcast condtions and favourable winds at Baltray, Drogheda today. Timed just before the PGA in Wentworth the tournament attracts Irish grown talent along with attracting some of the biggest names from the world of golf to guarantee some serious competition.

Since its first tournament in 1927 the Irish Open has played at various venues and for 2009 the Baltray Golf Course was selected.  Located on the river Boyne near Drogheda, Baltray is one of the top 100 ranked golf courses in the world offering beautiful unspoilt seaside scenery and challenges to test the very best of golfers who will need a combination of focus, accuracy and some long hitting on the day.  The course as a whole will play to a par 72.

Over 60,000 people are expended to attend the Open this year and nearly all will be hoping for a repeat of 2007 when Irish golfing hero Padraig Harrington won the Open and lifted the trophy for Ireland.
