Drogheda Port Company are very pleased to announce that their second Annual Arts Commission has been awarded to local artist, Mr John Moloney. Submissions were invited from local sculptors and artists for an internal sculpture based on a port related theme. The response to the Commission was excellent with the standard of entrants very high.
John Moloney, born in Dublin and now living in Drogheda has displayed his work in the town and in Dublin over the last 10 years covering sculptures, paintings and digital pictures. John takes his inspiration from the colour, light and form of the local landscape in particular the Boyne and its estuary and its deep connections with the town of Drogheda. He feels that the landscape should be cherished by those living today – inherited by those living tomorrow. Among the materials John uses are recycled and discarded materials he finds while travelling through the town and its surrounding countryside. Based in Greenhills, John has worked on design and illustration for local theatre groups such as Calipo Theatre & Picture Company and Upstate Theatre Project. He works with Luanasa, the art and design team for the Drogheda Samba Festival Pageant 2002.
John is both honoured and delighted that the Drogheda Port Company have commissioned one of his works for their collection and would expect to complete the commission for May next year.
