Drogheda Port Company is very pleased to announce the unveiling of a triptych painting based on the port and its environs, which will form the third piece in its successful Annual Arts Commission. The painting will be unveiled on Wednesday 14th July at 1pm in the Droichead Arts Centre on Stockwell Street.
The triptych will take its place in what is rapidly becoming a unique collection of diverse local art celebrating the very best of local talent.
Last September Drogheda Port Company announced its third Annual Arts Commission and submissions for a triptych painting in any medium and any size on a “port related” theme were invited from local artists. The response to Drogheda Port Company’s invitation was overwhelming with a very high standard of submissions. This made Drogheda Port Company’s task of choosing one artist very difficult.
In December Drogheda Port Company finally announced Ms Ann Mullen O’Brien had been chosen for this particular commission. A native of Monasterboice and now working from Millmount Craft Centre, Ann has been involved in a number of solo and group exhibitions both locally and nationally. Taking her inspiration from the historic nature of the Boyne Valley she has been commissioned to produce pieces for local businesses and her work has been featured in Irish Homes and Interiors Magazine.
Ann Mullen-O’Brien’s piece will take its place along side Paul McCann’s striking painting depicting the quays at sunset and John Moloney’s innovative sculpture representing a wave and its origins. Drogheda Port Company eagerly look forward to the unveiling of this triptych painting, which it feels will form another part of what will be a rich and varied collection representing the very best of local artistic talent.
The commissioned work will be left on public display in the Droichead Arts Centre, Municipal Centre, Stockwell Street, Drogheda from Wednesday July 14th until Friday July 30th and all are encouraged to come and view at their leisure.
