Drogheda Port Company have announced their 2007 Annual Arts Commission, which is open to any art form or medium for the creation of an internal sculpture or art work on a maritime or port based theme.
Joan Wiseman of Drogheda Port Company stated that ‘The commission which is now in its sixth year aims to provide a medium through which local artists can fully express themselves without the normal restrictions associated with company commissions. The artist is very much left to develop and take the work in whatever direction they choose without any interference in the process.’
This philosophy has to date created a number of stunning individual pieces from local artists such as Anne Mullen O’Brien, Joe Lawler, John Maloney and Paul McCann.
Any local artists who are interested in applying for the 2007 Commission can do so by sending a brief curriculum vitae along with some photographs of existing work and a short note on how they would approach the selected theme to the Chief Executive, Drogheda Port Company, Maritime House, The Mall, Drogheda by Friday 24th of November. Further information may also be obtained by contacting the port office.
