Recipient of 2007 Annual Arts Commission Announced
Drogheda Port Company are pleased to announce that its 2007 Annual Arts Commission has been awarded to Paul Mangan.  This year's commission was open to any art form or medium for the creation of an internal sculpture or art piece on a maritime or port based theme.

Residing in  Belpatrick,Collon, Paul currently works in both  2 and 3 media.  He has over the past 24 years worked with traditional materials such as stone, metal and wood and has specialized in metal art works.  He enjoys drawing, writing and photography as well as producing and presenting radio programmes exploring themes such as change, the flux of nature, communication, light and darkness.  "I attempt to find resonances of these themes in my surroundings and in the day to day interactions within  my environment."

On this year's submission, Paul stated "The challenge of this current work will be to attempt to address some of the transitions Drogheda is currently experiencing. Drogheda as a microcosm of life on the east coast aptly reflects the changes we are going through both provincially and nationally. These transitions are rich and varied from the recent potential Viking vessel find in the port and town's expansion plans, to the controversy around spiritual communion and even the daily exodus of commuters and the displacement that this causes. All these reflect the tensions of identity and the need within each one of us to re-adjust and change for or against that which is attempting to shape us."

"The response to the 2007 commission was, as in past years, overwhelming" said Joan Wiseman of Drogheda Port Company.  "The company is delighted to provide encouragement and opportunity for local artistes to work on a non commercial and self exploratory brief". She expressed the delight of Drogheda Port at their selection of Paul Mangan for the 2007 commission and looks forward to working with him in the coming year.  On behalf of Drogheda Port Company she wishes to thank the other applicants who submitted to the 2007 Commission for their time and interest and hopes they will submit again for future commissions.
