Paul McCann
In September 2001 Drogheda Port Company announced its very first annual arts commission and invited submissions from local artists to produce a painting on a port related theme. Paul McCann was chosen to produce the first Drogheda Port Company art commission.
A native of Drogheda, he studied Fine Art at the College of Marketing and Design in Dublin. Paul works in oils, watercolours and acrylics. He has paintings in both private and public collections, including a recent solo exhibition in the Arts Centre entitled “Seeing with Your Eyes Shut”.
The painting is oil on canvas representing the recently opened Tom Roes Point Terminal, quays, ships, containers, cargo and warehouses all present in a very textural painting where light and texture reveals different aspects to the port.
The painting was unveiled at the Droichead Arts Centre and after this it was moved to the Port Company HQ where it is currently on display.
