Drogheda Port Company Launches Beehive Conservation Project at Harbourville
Drogheda Port Company has announced the launch of a new beehive conservation project at its Harbourville headquarters, underlining its commitment to sustainable growth, biodiversity, and corporate social responsibility.
The hives, which are registered with the Native Irish Honey-Bee Society (NIHBS), are managed by local beekeeper Gerry Clinton of Sunhill Honey, who has been beekeeping on the site for several years. While Gerrys’s bees have long thrived in Harbourville, the dedicated Drogheda Port hives represent a recent initiative focused on supporting Ireland’s only native honeybee (Apis mellifera mellifera).
The project not only strengthens pollinator habitats along the coast but also produces small seasonal harvests of beautiful, natural honey, demonstrating the mutual benefits of environmental stewardship and community engagement.
“We are proud to launch this project as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and biodiversity,” said Paul Fleming, CEO, Drogheda Port Company. “Supporting native pollinators is an important step in protecting our natural environment, and it shows how industry and nature can work together for the benefit of future generations.”
This initiative forms part of Drogheda Port Company’s wider corporate social responsibility strategy, which places a strong focus on environmental projects that support the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan and demonstrate how ports can grow sustainably while enhancing their natural surroundings.
