The Boyne Beckons: Ireland’s Unique River Swim returns on August 1st
Ireland's legendary open-water swimming event returns on Saturday, 1 August 2026, as swimmers from across the country and beyond gather once again for the annual Boyne Swim in Drogheda.
Now in its 12th year, the Boyne Swim has firmly established itself as one of Ireland's most popular open-water swimming events. Some come to test themselves in open water, others to reconnect with friends and fellow swimmers, while many simply enjoy the unforgettable experience of swimming one of Ireland's most famous rivers.
Participants will take on a 2.7-kilometre route along the River Boyne, starting at Oldbridge/Upper Mell and finishing at the Boyne Fishermen's Rescue and Recovery Service Headquarters. The course takes swimmers through the heart of Drogheda, one of Ireland's most historically significant towns and waterways and it provides a rare opportunity to experience the river and town from a completely different perspective.
The success of this annual Boyne Swim is thanks to the dedication of volunteers from the Drogheda Triathlon Club supported by Drogheda Port Company and all the critical supporting safety organisations who help deliver a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. The organising committee is delighted to acknowledge the support of local renewable energy company Lennon Solar, whose sponsorship will help ensure the continued success of this much-loved community event.
